"Here, a man of valor, Henry Rey, walked, led, played and passed on his legacy": the Monte-Carlo Golf Club unveils a commemorative stone for its former president and Monaco figure

This commemorative stone that we are unveiling is more than a tribute. It is a promise of remembrance, a trace engraved in our landscape as in our spirit. It will remind each generation of the club that here, a man of value walked, led, gathered, played and passed on his legacy.
Eight months after the death of Henry Rey at the age of 86, the family of the Monte-Carlo Golf Club honored his memory through its president, Michel Dotta, who wished to pay "a tribute that was both solemn and affectionate" to this servant of the State and spearhead of Monegasque sport, whose name now rests forever on a white stone, located a putter stroke from the one dedicated to his illustrious father, Jean-Charles Rey.
Elected to the National Council for 40 years (1968 to 2008), Henry Rey also chaired the Finance Commission for 25 years and was "one of the architects of the budgetary and institutional stability of the Principality" , underlined Michel Dotta, insisting on the role of "pioneer" in local sport of the former president of golf. "In 1970, at just 31 years old, he became president of AS Monaco FC – another club that is very dear to us – the youngest president in the history of French professional football. From 1970 to 1972, he led the club to its promotion to Division 1, before handing over the reins at the age of 33, on a successful note. At the head of the Monaco Olympic Committee, from 1975 to 1994, he opened a new chapter: Monaco's first participation in the Winter Olympic Games, creation of the Games of the Small States of Europe, hosting the Monaco edition in 1987… His mark on sport is immense."
"He ensured that traditions were respected"
Naturally, Prince Albert II joined this tribute alongside the close friends of Mr. Henry Rey, as well as certain personalities of the Principality such as the president of the Automobile Club of Monaco and of the Crown Council, Mr. Michel Boeri. "His attachment to the club was deep, sincere, active. It was its DNA. He ensured that its traditions were respected, that its welcome was quality, and that its values were maintained. Under his presidency, the club retained its heritage elegance, while opening itself to the future," praised Michel Dotta, after recalling the closeness of the Princes of Monaco with the place and its spirit.
"Monseigneur, you embody the continuity of a family passion that your grandfather, Prince Pierre, and your father, Prince Rainier III, passionately passed on to us. Great golf enthusiasts, regular players of these greens, they saw in this sport a school of inner nobility—one that you yourself cultivate with constancy and grandeur. Your presence today testifies above all to the deep esteem you had for President Henry Rey, and the importance you attach to this community of values that he embodied here, with such dignity."
